Box of Bones

James Ossuary

This box is an ossuary, a container for the bones of the deceased, and dates from the Roman era. The red arrow points to an inscription that reads, “James son of Joseph brother of Jesus”. There has been some speculation that it could be “the” James son of “the” Joseph who is the brother of “the” Jesus, you know the one. Click the link above to get some new information on the implications of a current Israeli court ruling related to the ossuary.
